Samruddhi Mahamarg final stretch opening date: Check latest update about route, travel time, toll price and future connectivity

The final 76-km stretch of the Samruddhi Mahamarg, from Igatpuri in Nashik to Amane in Thane, will be inaugurated on Thursday, completing the 701-km expressway linking Nagpur and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. However, full access for motorists from Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai will take another year due to pending construction of the Vadpe interchange.

Samruddhi Mahamarg opening date: Top state leaders to attend inauguration

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, will attend the inauguration at Igatpuri. The final phase makes the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg fully operational. This expressway is one of Maharashtra’s largest infrastructure projects.

The 76-km stretch from Igatpuri to Amane has been built at a cost of ₹1,182 crore. It was developed in partnership with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), according to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).

Samruddhi Mahamarg Toll:

Although NHAI has not announced the toll charges for the final stretch, they will be in accordance with the recent toll charges revised in April. Toll charge on travelling through Samruddhi Mahamarg is Rs 2.06 per KM levied for light motor vehicles and Rs 3.32 for light motor commercial vehicles, Rs 6.97 for heavy vehicles having two axles, Rs 7.60 for heavy vehicles with 3 axles, Rs 10.93 for heavy construction machinery, and Rs 13.30 for oversized vehicles having seven or more axles.

Samruddhi Mahamarg Route: Nagpur to Thane in 8 hours

This newly completed section crosses the Kasara Ghat, a challenging terrain, and is expected to make travel safer and faster. The time taken to travel between Igatpuri and Amane will now reduce from more than 90 minutes to about 30 to 40 minutes. The full journey from Nagpur to Thane will now take eight hours instead of 16.

Before this final stretch, 625 km of the expressway—from Nagpur to Igatpuri—was already open. Completion was delayed due to the pending link between Amane and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Officials confirmed that the connection is now finished, making integration with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the national highway network possible.

Access from Mumbai still limited for a year

Although the expressway ends near Amane village, which is about 60 km from Mumbai, easy access for motorists in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region is not yet available. The Vadpe interchange—an important connector to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway—is still under construction and will take up to a year to complete.

Until then, traffic from Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai must use a temporary access point near Shangrila Resort on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, MSRDC officials said. Once completed, the Vadpe interchange will provide easier access from areas like Kalyan, Dombivli, Badlapur, Vasai, Virar, Panvel, and Navi Mumbai.

Future plans for improved connectivity

Plans are underway to add more interchanges, including connections from Badlapur and Kalyan, to improve overall access. Another key expansion is also in progress: the widening of the 21.6-km Mumbai-Nashik Highway stretch from Vadpe to Majiwada in Thane. This road, heavily used by commercial vehicles, will expand from four to eight lanes.

The completed Samruddhi Mahamarg is expected to ease travel for Shirdi pilgrims from Mumbai and Thane, and help in faster transport of agricultural produce from the districts it passes through to the Mumbai region.
