Samay Raina defends keeping Ranveer Allahbadia's controversial Latent comment, says 'I killed 99% of the germs but the 1% caused the pandemic'
Comedian Samay Raina has addressed the 2025 India’s Got Latent controversy in his latest stand-up special, Still Alive, detailing the internal and familial fallout following multiple FIRs. Raina revealed that despite his efforts to "kill 99% of th...

Ranveer Allahbadia 99% germs & 1% Germ Metaphor
Addressing the specific episode involving Ranveer Allahbadia that led to his legal troubles, Samay Raina explained that he was aware of the "bad things" said during the shoot and attempted to filter the content. Raina said, "So now when I saw the edit, I said, 'Oh, he has said a lot of bad things.' Let me keep one and remove the rest. So from my POV, I had killed 99 percent of the germs, right? I didn't know that the pandemic would happen from that 1 percent." He noted that he initially believed the single remaining provocative moment would be safe, but later realized that in life, "Kai baar unwanted cheezein reh jaati hai... jisko baad mein dekhke regret karte ho ke kaash maine uss time yeh kat diya hota... par bahut der ho gai hoti hai."Samay Raina's Mom was in Distress
Raina detailed a specific moment of vulnerability when his mother called him via video while he was "broken" and crying over the controversy. Recalling his hesitation to answer, he said, "With what face should I pick up this call? My mom doesn't know anything other than giving love." He contrasted her current distress with her innocence during his appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati, where she "messaged every single person at night" individually because she did not know how to send a broadcast message. Upon finally seeing him on the call, Raina noted, "She was a mess. She was trembling after seeing me. She was crying, 'Son, what happened?'... I felt so shitty that I did this to her."Samay Raina's Dad was Calm
In sharp contrast to his mother’s reaction, Raina reported that his father remained entirely unaffected by the threat of legal action or jail time. Raina stated, "On the other side of the family group chat, my dad is sending memes. He’s just sending memes. Like, literally memes about the situation. I’m thinking, 'Dad, I might go to jail, and you’re sending memes?'" He attributed this calm to his father’s history as a Kashmiri Pandit who survived the militancy and displacement of the early 90s. Raina remarked, "I have never seen him break. I have never seen him cry... Even when we lost everything—our house, our jobs—he was just... chill. Maybe he just knows that feeling things won’t fix the situation."The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
