Samantha Ruth Prabhu suffering from Myositis: Here's what you need to know about the rare condition

Indian actress, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, confirmed on social media that she was suffering from a rare autoimmune condition called myositis. The actress shared an Instagram post on Saturday along with a picture of her sitting on a couch with an IV drip on her wrist.

Samantha said in the post that she was overwhelmed by the response to the trailer of Yashoda, her next movie in which she plays a surrogate mother. She also confirmed that she was diagnosed with the ailment a few months ago and had decided to share the news once it went into remission. However, she said that her myositis treatment was taking longer than expected.

What is myositis?
Myositis is a rare autoimmune condition that weakens the muscles and makes them painful and tired. The condition is caused by issues with the immune system, which lead it to attack healthy tissues, causing pain and weakness. The illness is difficult to diagnose, and many times, the cause remains unknown. A few types of myositis are also caused by skin rashes. The illness affects children and adults, though women are more likely to be diagnosed with myositis than men.
