Tollywood actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is set to appear in the upcoming Telugu mythological drama Shaakuntalam, recently revealed that she initially declined the film’s offer. Later on, however, she agreed to the project in order to face the doubts that had been following her around for the past three years.

In the film, Samantha portrays the character Shakuntala, who is the daughter of Menaka and Viswamithra. Produced and directed by Gunasekhar, Shaakuntalam will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada on April 14. This marks Samantha's first collaboration with director Gunasekhar.

During an interview, Samantha explained that she rejected the offer at first as it came after she had just completed filming for The Family Man 2, where she played a character that was the opposite of Shakuntala in many ways. Samantha stated that she wasn't sure if she could transform into Shakuntala's character. However, Samantha later accepted the role, seeing it as an opportunity to confront her fears. She stated that her role in Shaakuntalam is the closest she has ever been to playing a 'Disney princess.'
