Sam Neill dies at 78

New Zealand actor Sam Neill, best known for his iconic role as Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, has died at the age of 78. His family confirmed that the actor died in Sydney on Monday, describing his passing as "sudden and unexpected".

In a statement shared on Neill's official Instagram page, his family said he remained cancer-free at the time of his death. No official cause of death has been disclosed.

"The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free," the family said in the statement.



The actor had publicly revealed in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Earlier this year, he announced that he was cancer-free following treatment for stage-three blood cancer.

Family says Sam Neill had remained cancer-free

Neill's family confirmed that although the actor had previously undergone treatment for cancer, his illness was not active when he died.
