Famous screenwriter, Salim Khan stated in a recent interview with his son Arbaaz Khan that his father-in-law had concerns about his religion. Here's what he said to him.

Salim Khan said, “Many were in my favour as well”. My father-in-law replied “We have inquired about you. You are well-educated and come from a nice household. Good boys are hard to come by these days. Magar religion nahin hai (The religion is not suitable)”. To this, the writer replied, “There may be dozens of conflicts between me and Salma, but religion will never be one of them”.
During the interview, Arbaaz Khan disclosed that his mother's name was originally Sushila, but she changed it to Salma after marriage. The actor also inquired about his father's decision to alter his name in the family. To which the ‘Sholay’ co-writer said that his wife’s grandmother, who was called Ajji, was the only one in the family who was supportive of him. She used to ask, “When will my Shankar arrive?"
Salim Khan and Sushila married in 1964, and Sushila later changed her name to Salma Khan. Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, and Sohail Khan are the couple's biological offspring, while Alvira Khan Agnihotri is their only daughter. Arpita Khan Sharma, their second daughter, was subsequently adopted.
