Sakat Chauth is mostly celebrated in northern India, where women refrain from eating anything from sunrise to moonrise. Wearing traditional attire, women pray to Lord Ganesha on this day and offer Till Koot to the deity.
Story and Significance of Sakat Chauth
As per Hindu mythology, there was a blind old woman in a village who used to live with her son and his wife. One day, Lord Ganesha appeared in front of her and promised to give her anything she wanted. Since the old lady was confused, Lord Ganesh suggested she consult with her son and his wife.
What to do on Sakat Chauth
On this day, people usually wake up early to take a bath. People then pray to Lord Ganesha and offer the deity yellow flowers, Durva grass, and Til Koot. Do not forget to light a diya with desi ghee, recite Sakat Chauth Katha, and chant mantra.
On this day, take a Satvik meal without onion or garlic. Women usually break their fast after sighting the stars.
