'Rubbish batting': Mohammed Azharuddin slams Indian women's cricket team on CWG final loss

Former cricketer and captain of Indian men's cricket team, Mohammed Azharuddin, has come down heavily on the women's cricket team for their performance in the final of the Commonwealth Games.

Azharuddin severely criticised the batting of the team, saying they gave away the game on a platter.

"Rubbish batting by the Indian team. No common sense. Gave away a winning game on a platter," Azharuddin had tweeted.




Batting first, Australia scored 161 for 8 in 20 overs. The Indian team at one point of time appeared to be on course for a surprise win when they were cruising at 118-2. But the dismissals of Jemimah Rodrigues (33) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (65) sapped their momentum and they fell frustratingly short of the target. The Indian team were eventually bowled out for 152.

Despite the defeat, the Indian women's cricket team was hailed by many, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who lauded them for fetching a silver medal. The first-ever CWG medal in cricket will always be special, the PM said.
