While one person described an Rs 8 lakh monthly budget as enough to enjoy an ultra-luxurious lifestyle in Delhi, another said the same amount could largely go towards basic household expenses in Singapore. A third comparison looked at a much smaller monthly budget of Rs 78,500 in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, where rent and everyday expenses still accounted for a significant share of the income.

Rs 8 lakh a month in Delhi
One person outlined what an ₹8 lakh monthly budget could provide in Delhi, describing it as a lifestyle available to the “0.01% of Indians.”According to the post, the budget would allow a person to live in one of the best localities in South Delhi, while also sending a child to schools such as the American Embassy School or The British School.
The same Rs 8 lakh in Singapore
A second person used the same monthly figure to describe the cost of living in Singapore, writing, “8 lakh a month. Just to exist in Singapore.”The post listed rent at Rs 2.7 lakh a month and school fees for one child at Rs 2.2 lakh. A helper accounted for another Rs 1 lakh, while groceries were estimated at Rs 1 lakh.
The remaining expenses included Rs 8,000 for a gym, Rs 8,000 for supplements, Rs 8,000 for taxis and Rs 20,000 for internet and subscriptions. The person also set aside Rs 50,000 for miscellaneous expenses.

Rs 78,500 a month in Bengaluru
The third comparison focused on Indiranagar in Bengaluru, with the person putting their monthly expenses at Rs 78,500.Rent was listed at Rs 25,000, while maid and cooking expenses came to Rs 6,500. Groceries accounted for Rs 10,000 and the gym cost Rs 6,000.
The person also listed Rs 5,000 for supplements,Rs 7,000 for eating out, Rs 8,000 for petrol and Rs 1,000 for internet and subscriptions. Miscellaneous expenses were estimated at Rs 5,000, while another Rs 5,000 went towards dog-related expenses.
Reflecting on the total, the person wrote that they had genuinely believed they were being financially responsible, only to conclude that “Indiranagar has its own tax system.”
The three posts have offered contrasting snapshots of how the same or similar amounts of money can translate into very different lifestyles depending on the city and the expenses involved.
