Illegal Tirzepatide Drug Bust: Rs 70 Lakh Spurious Mounjaro KwikPen Seized in Gurgaon Raid
Authorities in Gurgaon have busted a major illegal drug trafficking case involving spurious Mounjaro KwikPen (tirzepatide injections) worth over Rs 70 lakh, raising serious concerns over fake diabetes and weight-loss medication circulation in India.

Two men have been arrested after officials from the Drugs Control Department and police intercepted a vehicle carrying suspected spurious pharmaceutical injections stored in violation of safety norms.

Gurgaon Drug Raid: Rs 70 Lakh Mounjaro KwikPen Seized in Swift Dzire

Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team of drug inspectors and police stopped a Swift Dzire near Super Mart-1 at around 7.25 pm.

During the Gurgaon drug raid, officials discovered multiple cartons containing Mounjaro KwikPen injections in strengths ranging from 2.5 mg to 15 mg.

The stock was being transported in ice boxes, indicating attempts to maintain cold-chain conditions, although later inspection revealed violations.

Fake Mounjaro Injection Case: Storage and Labelling Violations Detected

Initial inspection revealed serious issues in the handling of the seized medicines:
  • Drugs not stored at prescribed temperature of 2°C to 8°C
  • Packaging inconsistencies detected
  • Mismatch in font size and labelling details
  • Suspicious product authentication
Officials stated that these discrepancies indicate the injections are likely spurious tirzepatide drugs not manufactured by the authorised company.

Illegal Drug Supply Chain Investigation in Gurgaon

During questioning, the driver claimed he was operating a cab booked for a Gurgaon drop, while a passenger identified as Mujammil Khan was detained.

Khan reportedly named Avi Sharma, a resident of Sohna, as the owner of the consignment.

Sharma, when called to the spot, failed to produce a valid licence for the storage, distribution or sale of tirzepatide injections, raising further suspicion of an illegal pharmaceutical supply network in Delhi-NCR.

Authorities have invoked strict provisions under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, including:
  • Section 17B – Spurious drugs
  • Section 27(a)
  • Section 27(c)
Officials confirmed that both accused were arrested on the spot, and further investigation is underway into the illegal tirzepatide distribution chain in India.

Mounjaro KwikPen Price Alert: Each Injection Worth Rs 28,000

Preliminary estimates suggest that each Mounjaro KwikPen injection costs around Rs 28,000, making the total seized consignment worth over Rs 70 lakh in black market value.

Authorities are now examining whether the drugs were sourced from a licensed manufacturer or illegally imported and relabelled for sale in India’s grey market.

Possible Supply Route via Bhagirath Palace and Gurgaon Networks

Investigators suspect that the illegal shipment may have been routed through Bhagirath Palace pharmaceutical market in Delhi, with billing links pointing towards Gurgaon-based addresses.

Officials are now tracing the full spurious drug supply chain in NCR, including:
  • Source of tirzepatide injections
  • Distribution hubs
  • Retail pharmacy connections
  • Online or offline illegal sales channels

Ongoing Investigation into Fake Diabetes Drug Network

Authorities have halted the sale of the seized batches in public interest until full verification is completed.

A senior drug control official told TOI: “We are verifying packaging, quality and authenticity. Action will be taken against everyone involved once the full network is exposed.”

The investigation is ongoing and may reveal a wider illegal pharmaceutical racket involving high-value injectable drugs in India.
