Rs 57, 000 in India vs Rs 2 lakh in Singapore cost of living: Social media users compare monthly expenses in viral thread

Social media users are actively comparing living expenses across countries, sparking a global discussion on affordability. The debate began after a viral post by Thomas Sanlis, in which he detailed his monthly expenses in France. Since then, hundreds of users on X have shared breakdowns of what it costs to live in their respective countries. What started as a France-focused discussion has now expanded to include places such as Singapore, the Netherlands, India, Austria, and several others.

Cost of Living in France
According to Sanlis, his total monthly expenses in France come to approximately 2,372€ ( ₹2.5 lakh). This amount includes EMIs of 1,400 euros, 450 euros spent on groceries, and 160 euros on electricity, along with other miscellaneous costs.



Cost of Living in Singapore
One user shared a detailed breakdown of living expenses in Singapore, highlighting a rent of S$1500. The high rental cost significantly pushed up overall spending, with the person reporting monthly expenses of over 2207 USD ( ₹2 lakh).


Cost of Living in India
Kartikey Singh revealed that he spends $633/month or ₹57,000/month while living in a tier-1 city in India. His expenses include $167 for rent in a shared apartment, $111 on outings, $167 on petrol for his bike and car, and $33 as cook’s salary, among other costs.
