Car owner Anirudh Ganesh, product manager at Amazon, shared his ordeal in a LinkdIn post. He said his car got
fully submerged in the flood waters. When he sent his vehicle to Volkswagen service centre, he got back a shocking estimate of Rs 22 lakh to repair his vehicle. He called this as “crony” capitalism by Volkswagen.
"I had to push my car onto a towing truck in waist-deep water at 11 pm. No one to help but we middle-class people are tough. Karlete hai kisi tarah," Ganesh wrote on LinkedIn. He said after approximately 20 days, the service centre sent him a repair estimate of Rs 22 lakh. Shocked by the estimate cost, he got in touch with his insurance provider, Acko, who informed him that the car would be written off as a total damage loss. The insurer provider said gthe customer will get the money after it would be picked up from the repair shop.
But he said his troubles didn't end here. He has mentioned that the service centre asked him to pay Rs 44,840 to collect his vehicle from them for issuing documents about the damage.
However Ganesh said, Volkswagen resolved the issue after an email. The company decided to settle the repair costs at Rs 5,000. He said that finally the car has been collected on September 26.
