Rs 1.5 lakh kaju seized in Hyderabad: Over 200 kg of suspected low-quality cashews found at repacking unit

The raid, carried out by the department’s flying squad, revealed that 36 kilograms of cashews were heavily infested with insects. The contaminated stock was immediately discarded on site to prevent any risk to public health.
In addition, around 210 kilograms of cashews, valued at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh, were seized on suspicion of poor quality. Officials confirmed that samples from the seized batch have been sent for laboratory analysis to determine whether they meet food safety standards.
The inspection forms part of ongoing efforts by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and to crack down on unsafe practices in the supply chain.
FSSAI Public Advisory
Following the inspection, the Telangana Food Safety Department issued an advisory urging consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing food products.The department further urged the public to purchase food items only from licensed and trusted vendors, and to report any unsafe food practices to the authorities.
Officials stated that such inspections will continue in order to safeguard public health and maintain food quality standards across the state.
