'RRR' completes its first week in Japan as the highest-earning foreign film

A week after its release in that country, Indian film RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, became the highest-grossing film in Japan. This movie was released on October 21st in Japan.

Indian film RRR has become the highest-earning foreign film in Japan within a week of its release. It has earned about 73 million JPY (estimated to be 500 thousand dollars). Director Rajamouli and stars Ram Charan and Jr NTR promoted the film in Japan.

The movie was released in Japan on October 21 by Keizo Kabata's Twin at more than 200 screens and over 30 IMAX theatres in more than 40 Japanese cities. This enabled it to become one of the widest-spread Indian movies in Japan. SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan and Jr NTR visited Japan to promote their film. Indian films do normally release in Japan, and Rajinikanth has been the most popular Indian actor in the East Asian nation till now.

In just a week, RRR managed to earn about 500 thousand dollars (roughly equal to JPY 73 million). It made this film the highest-earning Indian film in the East Asian country. RRR had the 10th spot in the top 10 movies in Japan - the rest of the nine were taken by local Japanese movies.
