Republic Day marks the adoption of the Constitution of India and the country’s transition into a republic on January 26, 1950. The Constitution replaced the Government of India Act, 1935, and the date commemorates the Indian National Congress’ declaration of Purna Swaraj in 1930. The main Republic Day Parade is held at Kartavya Path in New Delhi in the presence of the President of India and a foreign chief guest. What is the Beating Retreat ceremony
The Beating Retreat ceremony, held on the evening of January 29 at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi, marks the formal conclusion of Republic Day celebrations. The event features musical performances by bands from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces, and is presided over by the President of India. First held in the 1950s, the ceremony is an annual tribute to the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
