James Cameron's Avatar is all set to come back to theatres worldwide on 23rd September. It will be remastered in 4K High Dynamic Range format, announced Disney and 20th Century. The epic sci-fi film will be re-released and it comes three months before the film's sequel Avatar: The Way of Water which will be released on 16th December.

Avatar, starring Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be made available for a 'two-week limited engagement'. 20th Century's official Twitter handle shared the new trailer of the 2009 movie.

“On September 23 #Avatar returns to the big screen for a limited time only. Watch the new trailer now,” read the tweet by the studio.

Avatar was the top-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office and amassed more than $2.8 billion in revenues. It was also nominated for nine Academy Awards, including for the best picture and best director. It also won three Oscars for best Cinematography, Production Design and Visual Effects.

In 2010, a special extended theatrical re-release of Avatar exclusively in 3D theatres and IMAX 3D fetched $44 million worldwide and early last year, the re-release of the movie in China alone raised $57.7 million.

According to news sources, Disney+ has also removed Avatar ahead of the re-release. But it will return to the streaming platform on a later date, before the release of Avatar: The Way of Water. On some other platforms, the film will still be available for renting digitally, such as Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.

In early May, the makers revealed the first teaser of the trailer for the sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water.

Avatar: The Way of Water will also mark the return of Sigourney Weaver as Dr Grace Augustine and Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch. The movie will also star Vin Diesel and Kate Winslet, who had also famously starred in Cameron's 1997 hit, Titanic.
