Reliance Jio launched JioPC starting at Rs 1,000, offering up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage via cloud that can make even slow, 8-year-old computers work faster

Reliance Jio has launched JioPC as a standalone subscription service, opening up its cloud computing offering to anyone with an internet connection, regardless of which telecom or broadband provider they use. Until now, the service was available only to JioHome broadband subscribers, but Jio has removed that restriction, making JioPC accessible to consumers across the country.

JioPC is aimed at users whose computers have slowed down over the years, either due to ageing hardware, low storage space or an operating system that has fallen behind on updates. Instead of asking users to buy a new machine or spend on expensive upgrades, Jio is offering to boost the existing computer's capabilities using its cloud infrastructure.

What JioPC offers


JioPC gives users access to additional computing power without changing their physical hardware. The service can add up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage to a computer via the cloud, depending on the plan chosen. Jio says the setup process takes less than five minutes, and does not require any data migration, new hardware installation or downtime.

According to Jio, the service is built specifically with older machines in mind, those that are three to four years old and beginning to show signs of slowing down. The company says even a computer as old as eight years can use JioPC to access modern computing power, since the heavier processing work is handled on Jio's servers rather than on the user's device.

The problem Jio is targeting

Jio has framed the launch around a broader issue it says is affecting Indian households, schools and small businesses: a large number of computers in use today are old and underpowered, at a time when software, particularly AI-based applications, is demanding more from devices than ever before. Buying a new computer has also become considerably more expensive, Jio noted, making an upgrade path out of reach for many users.

The company is pitching JioPC heavily on AI readiness, arguing that as AI tools become a bigger part of everyday computing and learning, older machines will increasingly struggle to keep up unless their capabilities are supplemented. Since JioPC processes AI workloads on Jio's cloud rather than locally, the company claims that even significantly outdated computers can run AI-powered applications without any hardware changes.

JioPC is available in two tiers, each with multiple validity options.

JioPC (8GB RAM, 500GB storage):

• 2 months: Rs 1,000


• 5 months: Rs 2,000


• 10+2 months: Rs 4,000

JioPC Ultra (16GB RAM, 1TB storage):

• 2 months: Rs 1,200


• 5 months: Rs 2,500


• 10+2 months: Rs 5,000

The base JioPC plan is aimed at users looking for a straightforward performance boost, while JioPC Ultra is positioned for those who need more storage and memory, such as users running more demanding applications or working with larger files.

By making JioPC available as a standalone product, Jio is positioning the service as a low-cost alternative to buying new hardware, betting that cloud-based computing power, rather than a new machine, will be enough to keep older computers relevant in an increasingly AI-driven computing environment.
