IPS Officer Flags Impact on Country’s Image
IPS officer Arun Bothra took to social media to highlight the issue, suggesting that such behaviour could harm India’s global reputation.“People whose behaviour abroad brings a bad name to the country should face some consequences. In serious cases, restrictions on foreign travel for some years can also be considered,” wrote Bothra.
‘Indian Passport Comes With Responsibility’
Emphasising accountability, Bothra noted that holding an Indian passport is not just a privilege but also a responsibility. He stressed the importance of respecting local laws and maintaining proper public conduct while abroad.“Having an Indian passport is not just a right. It also comes with the responsibility to respect local laws, behave properly in public, and protect the country’s image,” he said in his X post.
Viral Videos Spark Debate
His remarks come at a time when multiple videos circulating online show Indians dancing in public places in countries such as Vietnam and the United States, sparking debate over civic behaviour overseas.Visa Concerns Highlighted
Responding to a user who argued that Indians should not worry about foreigners’ opinions, Bothra clarified that his concern lies elsewhere.“No, I am not worried about what foreigners think of uncivilised and uncouth behaviour of some of us. What worries me more is that because of such behaviour, visa rules are getting tougher for all Indians. Thailand is recent example,” the IPS officer said on X.
