The much-anticipated Ranji Trophy 2022/23 season will begin on Wednesday (December 13). Last season, the Madhya Pradesh team, captained by Aditya Shrivastava, won the title. They defeated Mumbai's seasoned combatants by six wickets.

This season, the event is divided into Elite and Plate, with different champions for each category. There are 38 teams in all, grouped into five groups of four teams each, with six teams comprising a single Plate group.

The top four teams in the Elite Group will advance to the semi-finals, with the fifth and sixth-placed teams competing in a playoff. The two Plate Group finalists will be promoted to the Elite Group for the 2023/24 season.


The league stage matches will last four days, while the knockout stage matches will last five days.

Elite A: Baroda, Bengal, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh.

Elite B: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Saurashtra, Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad, Delhi.

Elite C: Kerala, Goa, Puducherry, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Services, Karnataka.

Elite D: Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Railways, Gujarat, Vidarbha.

Plate Group: Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram.
