According to reports, the filming of the biopic has not started yet. And makers wanted to share the look of Randeep Hooda as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on Veer Savarkar Jayanti to pay tribute to Savarkar.
When the film was announced in March, Randeep Hooda took his social media to express his gratitude and mentioned that he feels privileged to be Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. In the struggle for independence, many unsung heroes never got their deserved due, and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is one of them.
Randeep Hooda shared the poster of his first look from the film and mentioned that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is one of the worthy unsung heroes in the quest for independence. He saluted Savarkar and added essaying the role of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was pretty challenging, and he hopes to live up to it.
Mahesh Manjrekar also shared the first look poster on his Twitter account and added that he feels proud to be directing such an epic movie. Manjrekar said that although people have a different version of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in their minds, Randeep Hooda’s role in Swatantra Veer Savarkar will be precisely what the politician was in real life and will be nothing different.
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is considered a misunderstood and debated hero, and his real story is considered to be brushed under the carpet. The biopic aims to clear all the Fogg around his reputation.

It is high time we should appreciate him and pay our tributes to him. Savarkar had a fearless persona of which even the Britishers were scared. At least now, the people should start to understand him, and he should be awarded the Bharat Ratna award. In the same statement, Even Sandeep Singh said that Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was the person who could have avoided the 1947 partition.
Who is Vinayak Damodar Savarkar?
- Vinayak Damodar Savarkar belonged to a small village named Bhagur in Nashik district in Maharashtra and was born on May 28, 1883.
- Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was an eminent activist, writer and politician.
- He was one of the leading faces of Hindu Mahasabha, a Hindu Nationalist Organisation and political party.
- He opposed the British presence in India.
- Under Savarkar, the Hindu nationalist political ideology of Hindutva rapidly developed.
- Savarkar was arrested for being connected to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination but was later released due to lack of proof.
- Savarkar was an active participant in developing Hindu ideology and was arrested in 1910 and imprisoned in the Cellular Jail of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
- Later he was shifted to Ratnagiri and was provided limited freedom.
- At his residence in Bombay, on February 26, 1966, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar took his last breath by renouncing food, water and medicine.
