Ramiz Raza Dhaka crowd silence video
Former Pakistan captain and commentator Ramiz Raja found himself in an awkward situation during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match after his attempt to energise the crowd failed. A video from the stadium shows Raja asking fans to “make some noise” before the match, but most of the spectators remained silent. The clip later went viral and drew reactions on social media.

As the moment unfolded, Raja acknowledged the response from the stands and said: "they don't want to make some noise". The brief exchange quickly turned into a talking point online, with users comparing his attempt to similar crowd-pumping moments by other commentators.

A moment that caught attention online

Raja’s gesture reminded many viewers of on-field commentators trying to lift the atmosphere before big matches. However, the lack of reaction from the crowd made the clip stand out. The silence, captured clearly on video, became the focus of online discussions and jokes.

"Ramiz Raja tried a Ravi Shastri-style hype moment. Crowd response? Absolute silence. Aura can’t be copied," one user said.

The incident added to the attention around the BPL, which has already been in the news for reasons beyond cricket this season.

BPL 2026 rescheduled after controversy

The Bangladesh Premier League faced a major disruption on 15 January 2026, when players boycotted matches, leading to the cancellation of all fixtures scheduled for that day. The protest followed public comments by M. Najmul Islam, chairman of the BCB Finance Committee.

Islam referred to former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal as an “Indian agent” after Tamim suggested a diplomatic approach to resolve the T20 World Cup venue dispute with India.

Player remarks trigger wider protest

The situation worsened when Islam said players did not deserve compensation for missing the World Cup and should instead “return crores of taka” for their past performances. These remarks drew strong criticism from players and led the cricketers’ welfare body in Bangladesh to step in.

As tensions rose, two BPL teams refused to leave their hotels for the Dhaka-phase matches, forcing the Bangladesh Cricket Board to hold emergency talks to keep the tournament running.

Board action and league resumption

To break the deadlock, the BCB removed Najmul Islam from his role as finance committee chairman and began disciplinary proceedings against him. A compromise was later reached between the board and the players.

The BPL resumed on 16 January with a revised schedule. While matches returned, the episode left questions around the league’s management and added context to moments like the one involving Ramiz Raja that quickly caught public attention.
