Imam of Delhi's historic Jama Masjid announced that Muslims will observe their first roza (fast) on Sunday, March 2, following the moon sighting expected on Saturday evening.
As per Islamic tradition, the official start of Ramadan is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon. Since the moon was not visible on Friday, Ramadan will begin Saturday evening with the moon's appearance, which will mark the first day of fasting on Sunday.
In Lucknow, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali also confirmed that the crescent moon was not sighted on February 28, adding that "the first 'roza' will be observed on 2 March 2025."
Ramadan 2025
Muslims around the world are preparing for Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, which requires fasting from dawn to sunset for 29 to 30 days. Ramadan is a time for reflection, prayer, self-discipline, and charity, as Muslims observe a daily routine of Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and Iftar (meal to break the fast at sunset).
Throughout this month, Muslims focus on spiritual growth, increased prayers, and acts of generosity, culminating in the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which follows the sighting of the new moon marking the end of Ramadan.
