In a proud and emotional moment for the Indian community in Canada, the tallest statue of Lord Ram in North America has been unveiled in Mississauga, Ontario, at the Hindu Heritage Centre. The grand 51-foot fibreglass idol (excluding its base and umbrella) now stands tall as a new symbol of faith, unity, and cultural pride in the Greater Toronto Area.

The grand unveiling took place on Sunday, drawing thousands of devotees. Several high-profile Canadian political leaders attended, including Minister of Women and Gender Equality Rechie Valdez, Treasury Board President Shafqat Ali, Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, and the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Commons. Their presence underlined the national significance of the event, highlighting Canada's multicultural fabric.

Social Media Reacts: 'From Ayodhya to Ontario'

The statue sparked waves of emotional responses on social media. One user posted, “From Ayodhya to Ontario, the name of Shri Ram echoes louder than borders.” Another wrote, “This is more than a statue, it’s a symbol of resilience and peace in the face of challenges.”



Some posts referred to tensions the Hindu community has experienced, particularly from fringe elements, and viewed the idol as a strong message of cultural pride and perseverance. Many simply called it “grand and beautiful”, while others celebrated it with messages like, “Let’s make Canada great again.”

Built in Delhi, Raised in Canada

The massive idol was designed and constructed in Delhi, then carefully assembled in Canada by skilled craftsmen. Built with a steel superstructure, the statue is made to last at least 100 years and can withstand wind speeds up to 200 km/hr, a blend of devotion and durability.

“This is a spiritual gift to the community,” said Acharya Surinder Sharma Shastri, founder of the Hindu Heritage Centre. “It reminds us that righteousness must always guide our lives.”

The statue’s journey began four years ago, made possible by a generous donation from an Indo-Canadian business leader. For Kushagr Sharma, the event’s principal organiser, the moment was deeply touching.

“To see over 10,000 people come together for Shri Ram’s murti was remarkable,” he said. “This was not just a religious event, but a proud day for all Canadians who value spiritual and cultural harmony.”

The statue’s location adds to its grandeur. Planes approaching Toronto Pearson International Airport often pass over the Hindu Heritage Centre, meaning that now, one of the first sights to greet visitors from above will be the majestic form of Lord Ram, arms open wide, standing tall as a symbol of peace, heritage, and resilience.
