Ram Navami 2026 recipes
Ram Navami, which celebrates the birth of Lord Shri Ram, is observed with great devotion and spiritual fervour across India. On this auspicious day, devotees prepare a variety of sattvic dishes as bhog, or sacred offerings, for the deity.

These traditional recipes hold deep spiritual significance and are made using simple, pure ingredients without onion or garlic, in line with the principles of purity and devotion. Preparing and offering these dishes is considered an essential part of the celebration, symbolising faith and reverence for the divine.

On this occasion, many devotees also perform the ritual of feeding nine young girls a special ‘vrat’ meal, known as "kanjak" or "kanya puja". The Navami menu commonly includes dishes like poori, kala chana, and sooji ka halwa. Let’s explore some of the most popular preparations:

Aloo Tamatar Curry
A simple and comforting dish where potatoes are cooked in a tangy tomato-based gravy with minimal spices. Easy to prepare, it is a common fasting-day recipe and pairs well with vrat ki roti, paratha, or poori.

Singhara Poori
This puffed bread is made using potato and water chestnut flour. It is best enjoyed with vrat ka kadhi, khatta-meetha kaddu, pumpkin sabzi, or aloo-palak sabzi.

Kala Chana
Soaked overnight and boiled, chickpeas are tempered with cumin, green chilies, coriander powder, and amchur (dry mango powder), without using onion or garlic, making it a perfect sattvic dish.
