Television and film actor Rakesh Poojary, 33, died of a heart attack late last night during a Mehndi ceremony near Nitte in Karkala, Udupi district. He reportedly collapsed at the event and was later declared dead. A case has been registered at the Karkala Town Police Station.

Death confirmed during private ceremony

The incident took place during a private Mehndi function. Shortly before his death, Poojary had posted a photo from the ceremony on his Instagram story. The image is now being widely shared across social media platforms.

Tributes from the entertainment industry

Many from the entertainment community expressed shock over Poojary’s sudden death. Actor Rakshitha, who judged Comedy Khiladigalu, paid tribute saying:

“The ever smiling Rakesha...my fav Rakesha..the most sweetest kindest loving person... Namma Rakesha...will miss u mange (sic).”

Early beginnings in theatre and TV

Rakesh Poojary started his performance journey with the Chaitanya Kalavidaru theatre group. He first came into the limelight in 2014 through the Tulu reality show Kadale Bajil, which was telecast on a private channel.

Though he faced repeated rejections—almost 150 auditions—he continued pursuing his goal and gradually built a presence in the regional entertainment industry.

Rise through ‘Comedy Khiladigalu’

Poojary gained statewide recognition in Karnataka after winning Season 3 of Comedy Khiladigalu in 2020. He had earlier been part of the runner-up team in Season 2 in 2018. His unique style and audience appeal contributed to his popularity.

Contributions to cinema and regional shows

Apart from reality shows, Poojary acted in both Kannada and Tulu films. His Kannada film appearances included Pailwaan and Idu Entha Lokavayya. In Tulu cinema, he featured in titles such as Petkammi, Ammer Police, Pammana The Great, Umil, and Illokkel.

He also appeared in several coastal Karnataka-based television shows like Bale Telipale, May 22, Star, and Tuyinaaye Poye, while remaining active in theatre work throughout his career.
