Rajpal Yadav in jail: 'Chup Chup Ke' actor makes an emotional statement before surrendering, says 'There are no friends, I have to deal...'

Actor Rajpal Yadav has been making headlines for the past few days after his name was attached to the cheque bounce case. The 'Phir Hera Pheri' actor last week surrendered before the Tihar Jail in New Delhi after the High Court rejected his last-minute plea for relief in a long-running cheque bounce and loan default case. The actor has been going through a tough time amidst legal and financial troubles in cheque bounce case of approximately Rs 2.5 crore.

Rajpal Yadav's emotional statement before surrendering

According to a report in NewsX, the actor made an emotional statement before he surrendered himself to the authorities. Ahead of surrendering, Yadav reportedly made an emotional statement in which he said, "Sir, kya karoon? Mere paas paise nahin hain. Aur koi upaay nahin dikhta… Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own."

Rajpal Yadav cheque bounce case

For those unaware, Rajpal Yadav's legal case dates back to 2010, when the actor borrowed Rs 5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture Ata Pata Laapata. The film failed to perform at the box office, leading to severe financial strain and difficulties in repaying the loan. As a result, several cheques issued by the actor reportedly bounced, triggering legal action.

Rajpal Yadav and his wife were convicted in 2018 by a Magistrate’s Court under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act and the couple was sent to six months in jail. The 'Chup Chup Ke' actor challenged the ruling through multiple appeals but the case kept going on for years as the outstanding amount ballooned to nearly Rs 9 crore. During this time, Yadav repaid parts of the debt, including Rs 75 lakh in 2025.

Even though loan defaults are usually treated as civil disputes, the Delhi High Court took a serious view of repeated violations of court undertakings. Rajpal Yadav had been granted multiple extensions over several years to repay the amount in instalments. However, the court observed that he repeatedly failed to honour these commitments, despite showing partial payments and assurances.

The court stated that continued leniency could not be extended, regardless of fame, and ordered the actor to surrender without delay.

Court orders Rajpal Yadav to surrender

The Delhi High Court on Thursday rejected Bollywood actor Rajpal Naurang Yadav's final attempt to avoid imprisonment in a series of cheque dishonour cases. The court directed the actor that he must surrender before jail authorities before any further hearing can be granted. The court declined to grant any relief, observing that Yadav had already been directed to surrender on February 4, 2026.
