Actor-comedian Rajpal Yadav is fighting legal and financial battles for more than a decade now. The 'Phir Hera Pheri' actor surrendered before the Tihar Jail authorities after the Delhi High Court refused to extend the deadline related to his conviction in cheque-bounce cases. As Rajpal Yadav continues to face trouble, Sonu Sood has lend a helping hand to him and has come forward to openly show his support to the seasoned comedian. In a show of solidarity, actor Sonu Sood has now stepped in, offering Rajpal a film along with a “small signing amount”. Sonu Sood emphasised that the move is not charity, but a gesture of professional support.

Calling him a 'gifted actor', Sonu Sood said Rajpal Yadav has given years of unforgettable work to the industry and announced that Yadav would be a part of his movie. He has also asked the Hindi cinema industry to support one another during low times.

Taking to his X handle, Sonu Sood wrote, "Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us..producers, directors, colleagues to stand together." (sic)

"A small signing amount, adjustable against future work, is not charity, it’s dignity. When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry," his post read.

I have to deal with this crisis on my own.” (Sir, what should I do? I don’t have the money. I see no other option. Sir, here we are all alone.)

In the story, he was even asked why he didn’t ask his friends such as Priyadarshan for help. To this, Rajpal said, “Sir, yahan hum sab akele hain (Sir, we are all on our own over here). There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own.”

Rajpal Yadav is currently in the final phase of a long legal battle that began in 2010. To finance his film Ata Pata Laapata, the actor reportedly borrowed ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd.

After the film failed at the box office, Yadav is said to have faced financial strain, making repayment difficult. Several cheques issued to settle the loan allegedly bounced, triggering legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

In April 2018, a magistrate’s court convicted Yadav and his wife under Section 138 of the Act and sentenced them to six months in prison. Despite multiple appeals and partial repayments—including about ₹75 lakh paid in 2025—the outstanding amount reportedly swelled to nearly ₹9 crore over the years.

The case took a decisive turn on February 4, 2026, when Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected Yadav’s final plea for a one-week extension to arrange funds, observing that repeated leniency could not be granted regardless of public stature. The court directed him to surrender immediately, following which Yadav turned himself in at Tihar Jail.
