Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over-rate

Rajasthan Royals (RR) wicketkeeper-batter and skipper Sanju Samson has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings. The over rate issues is becoming an issue in this year IPL as a lot of games have stretched past the four-hour mark.

"RR have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 17 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Wednesday," the IPL said in a statement.

"As it was the team's first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs," IPL statement said.


Rajasthan Royals pulled off a last-ball win over CSK yesterday with a brilliant performance by bowler Sandeep Sharma in the last 20th over against M S Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja.

It was Rajasthan's third win in four games while CSK suffered their second loss of the season. With this win, RR has become the table-toppers with six points. CSK is at the fifth spot with two wins and two losses and a total of four points.

RR Skipper Sanju Samson also created an unwanted record on Wednesday. During the match, he became the RR player with the most ducks in IPL history. After being castled by Ravindra Jadeja on his second ball for a duck, Samson registered his eighth duck for the franchise, most by any player.
