Rainfall to lash Delhi-NCR and parts of North India; IMD shares updates on winter chill and foggy mornings

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain in Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi NCR, and North Rajasthan on January 22 and 23 due to two western disturbances.

IMD Scientist Dr Naresh Kumar said, "Due to two western disturbances, rain and snowfall are expected in the western Himalayas, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the coming five days. There is a possibility of rain in Punjab, Haryana, Western UP, Delhi NCR, North Rajasthan on the 22nd and 23rd. Dense and very dense fog will also prevail in Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. It will prevail till coming two to three days."

Dense fog expected in several regions

Dense fog will impact areas like Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and other northern states for the next two to three days, with visibility dropping to as low as 50 to 200 meters in the morning.

Disruptions in Delhi's rail network due to fog

A thick blanket of fog caused major disruptions in Delhi’s rail network, with 41 trains running behind schedule. Passengers are urged to check train schedules before traveling.

Some of the trains affected include Kir-Asr Express (15707), Lichchvi Express (14005), Gorkhdham Express (12555), Purushottam Express (12801) and Mahabodhi Express (12397).

Delhi's air quality declared 'very poor'

Delhi's air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 340, placing it in the 'very poor' category. The city's low visibility and high AQI levels contribute to health concerns for residents.

No cold wave expected in Delhi NCR

The temperature in Delhi remains normal, and a cold wave is not expected in Delhi NCR or North-West India, despite the foggy conditions.
