Western Railway is set to halt local train services between Goregaon and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) for three months, affecting a corridor that currently runs 88 local services daily and carries lakhs of commuters.

According to a report by Navbharat Times, the shutdown is required for the demolition and reconstruction of the Bandra–Khar railway bridge. The bridge work is a critical part of the project to add fifth and sixth railway lines between Mumbai Central and Borivali, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing congestion on the suburban network. The block period was initially planned for six months but was later reduced to three months to limit commuter inconvenience.

This is not the first disruption linked to the expansion project. Between December and January, construction of the fifth and sixth lines between Kandivali and Borivali led to the cancellation of 200–250 local trains daily for nearly a month. With that phase completed, work has now shifted to the more complex Goregaon–CSMT section.

There is, however, some relief for passengers. Local train services will continue to operate between Bandra and CSMT, as the fifth and sixth lines between Bandra and Borivali are already complete.

The Western Railway expansion project has been approved at a cost of ₹964.84 crore. At present, 88 local trains run between Goregaon and CSMT, while 106 services operate between Bandra and CSMT.

Commuters from Goregaon and nearby stations are advised to use Churchgate-bound Western Line services or road transport to reach Bandra, from where they can connect to Harbour Line or Central Railway services.
