Rahul Gandhi returns from Goa with Jack Russell Terrier puppy

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi concluded his private visit to Goa on a heartwarming note, bringing back an exquisite Jack Russell Terrier puppy with him. Known for their intelligence and keen sense of smell, Jack Russell Terriers are a popular choice among dog lovers.

Shivani Pitre, a dog kennel owner in Mapusa, North Goa, along with her husband Stanley Braganca, was delighted to accommodate Gandhi's interest in the breed. Prior to his visit, Gandhi had sent a representative to inquire about the availability of the puppies and personally wanted to meet the chosen one before taking it home. Accompanied by the Congress leader, the shelter visit took place around 9 am on Thursday, en route to Manohar International Airport, Mopa, in North Goa.

Gandhi's interaction with the breeders, Sharvani Pitre and Stanley Bragança, left a positive impression as he appeared humble and down-to-earth. The Jack Russell Terrier's traits seemed to have won him over, and he eagerly interacted with the dogs during his time at the shelter.


"This breed of hardy dogs has a remarkable sense of sight and smell, and they lead an active life with a long lifespan," explained Sharvani Pitre about the breed. In a testament to their abilities, a Jack Russell Terrier was recently honored with a medal by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for its outstanding performance in detecting mines left behind by retreating Russian forces in reclaimed territories.

The breeders have a history of supplying dogs to eminent personalities like Azim Premji and celebrities such as Kareena Kapoor. Rahul Gandhi's decision to adopt a Jack Russell Terrier adds him to the list of notable personalities appreciating the breed's unique qualities.

During his visit to Goa, Rahul Gandhi also met with various state Congress leaders, including the leader of the opposition, Yuri Alemão, and the Goa Congress President, Amit Patkar.

Shivani Pitre expressed her appreciation for Gandhi's visit, emphasizing how he interacted with the dogs like a friend, showcasing his affectionate and warm nature. Despite the limited time he spent at the kennel, Gandhi made sure to play and bond with the dogs.

After a heartening encounter with the puppies and a productive meeting with Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi departed from Goa, his heart and home enriched with the presence of a delightful Jack Russell Terrier.
