Former India captain Rahul Dravid recently took the field with his younger son, Anvay, for Vijaya Cricket Club (Malur) in a Sri Nassur Memorial Shield third division match. Batting first after losing the toss to Young Lions Club, Vijaya Cricket Club posted 345/7 in 50 overs. Anvay, 16, scored 58 off 60 balls, while his father managed 10 runs off eight deliveries. They batted together briefly before their partnership ended. Swapnil Yelave was the standout performer, scoring a century (107).

Anvay and Samit Dravid’s progress in cricket

Anvay, a wicketkeeper-batter, has shown promise in age-group cricket. He was the highest run-scorer for his state in the 2023-24 Vijay Merchant Trophy, accumulating 357 runs in five matches at an average of 45, including four half-centuries. He also topped the run charts in the U-14 state league while representing Vijaya Cricket Club. His elder brother, Samit, has played for Karnataka in various age-group tournaments. Last year, Samit was named in India’s U-19 squad for a home series against Australia U-19 but missed out due to a knee injury. In the Cooch Behar Trophy last year, he scored 362 runs and took 16 wickets in eight matches, helping Karnataka secure the title.

Dravid returns to Rajasthan Royals as head coach

Rahul Dravid stepped down as India’s head coach after the team’s successful T20 World Cup campaign, citing family commitments. He has since signed a multi-year contract as head coach of Rajasthan Royals. Under his tenure, India topped the Test, ODI, and T20I rankings and finished as runners-up in the ODI World Cup.
