After Rahul Arunoday Banerjee's shocking death, his wife Priyanka Sarkar has issued a public statement urging people to respect the family’s privacy. The 43-year-old actor died after drowning in the sea at Talsari beach in Odisha while shooting for a television project. The incident unfolded during an outdoor shoot near Digha. Banerjee reportedly entered the water for a scene but did not return, triggering a search by crew members. He was missing for nearly an hour and a half before being found and taken to Digha State General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Soon after the news broke, Priyanka Sarkar shared a note on social media, addressing the loss and the attention surrounding it.

“This is a time of immense grief and deep despair for us. In this difficult moment, we sincerely request space and privacy. There is a child, a mother, a family, and loved ones trying to navigate this loss together.”


She added, “We kindly urge our friends and colleagues in the media to respect our boundaries, refrain from intrusion, and allow us the dignity to grieve in peace.”

She concluded by saying, “Your understanding and support mean more than ever at this time.”

The note reflects the family’s attempt to deal with the tragedy away from public scrutiny.

What happened during Rahul Banerjee's shoot

Banerjee was shooting for a television series when the incident took place at Talsari sea beach. According to co-actors, the team had paused for lunch, but the actor stayed back to complete additional shots.

His co-star Bhaskar Banerjee confirmed that he continued filming while others had stepped away. When he did not return, members of the crew and local technicians began searching for him in the water.

After an extensive search, he was located and rushed to hospital, but he could not be revived.

Police register unnatural death case

According to PTI, a West Bengal Police officer said the actor was declared dead after being brought from a sea beach in neighbouring Odisha.

"We have contacted our counterparts in Odisha to ascertain the sequence of events. A case of unnatural death has been registered in Digha police station as well. We are also talking to his production team members and eyewitnesses," he said.

Authorities are now trying to piece together the exact sequence of events leading to the drowning.

Shock and condolences from political circles

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed grief over the actor’s death.

"I am shocked, deeply saddened to hear the news that the distinguished, young, and popular actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee is suddenly no longer among us."

"I am unable to comprehend what exactly happened. He was one of my favourite actors and a person I truly admired. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, loved ones, and countless admirers," she added.

From co-stars to life partners

Banerjee rose to fame with the 2008 film Chirodini Tumi Je Amar, where he starred opposite Priyanka Sarkar. The film made them household names and marked the beginning of their relationship.

They married in 2010 and welcomed their son, Shohoj, in 2013. The couple separated in 2017 but reunited in 2023, choosing to co-parent their child.
