Singh's win was part of Abu Dhabi Big Ticket's Series 291 draw, in which five Indian expatriates collectively won Dh1.95 million in consolation prizes, the report said.
How Kulwant Singh won the Dubai lottery
Singh said he first learned about the lottery through online videos and decided to participate. For the winning draw, he selected a ticket at random, without knowing it would bring him such a large prize. The truck driver said he was delighted when he learned about the result. He and his friends had been buying tickets together every month for approximately two years."I was very happy when I found out that we had won. We purchase tickets together every month, so it was a wonderful feeling to finally receive the good news," he said, as quoted by Gulf News. The group continued participating in the draw over that period, hoping to win. Their latest entry finally brought them a reward.
What does the Punjab truck driver plan to do with the prize money?
Unlike winners who may look for expensive purchases after receiving a windfall, Singh has identified a more personal priority. He wants to use the money to help his family and invest in their home. His plans reflect the importance of financial security for someone who has spent years working away from home."I want to use the money for my family and towards our home," Singh said, according to the report. He also indicated that he and his friends intend to continue participating in future draws.
Kerala engineer also wins in the same draw
Singh was not the only Indian expatriate to receive good news from the Big Ticket draw. Muhammed Ijas C, a 30-year-old engineer from Kerala, won Dh100,000, equivalent to approximately Rs 26 lakh. Unlike Singh, Ijas chose his ticket number for a personal reason. He combined his son's birthdate and birth year to arrive at the number that eventually won him the prize."It was one of the most special moments for me. I had chosen the number based on my son's birthday, so finding out that we had won made it even more meaningful," he said, as quoted by Gulf News. The two winners had different approaches to selecting their entries. Singh picked his ticket randomly, while Ijas used a number connected to his family.
Their wins were among the prizes awarded in Series 291, which saw five Indian expatriates receive consolation prizes worth a combined Dh1.95 million.
