A man has been booked for allegedly selling his nine-month-old son for Rs 1 lakh with the help of his brother-in-law, police said on Wednesday.

The incident came to light when a police patrol team in Panam village received a tip-off that a man named Sohan had conspired with his brother-in-law, Sagar, to sell his infant son. The child was reportedly sold to a resident of Salarpur, Jalandhar, for Rs 1 lakh.

Police investigations revealed that part of the payment was made in cash, while the rest was transferred to Sagar's bank account. An FIR has been registered under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

Authorities are conducting raids to find the child and arrest the accused.
