Mumbai Weather Tomorrow July 9: IMD issues heavy rain alert; how long will the rainy spell continue? Check detailed forecast
Pune weather tomorrow: IMD forecasts heavy rain on July 9
According to the IMD, Pune is likely to experience:- Heavy rainfall at isolated places
- Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning
- Cloudy skies throughout the day
- Occasional gusty winds during rain spells

The Orange Alert indicates the possibility of weather conditions that could disrupt normal activities. Residents are advised to remain cautious while travelling, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Will schools, colleges and offices remain open in Pune?
Yes, as of now. There has been no official announcement from the Pune district administration, the Maharashtra government or civic authorities regarding the closure of schools, colleges or offices on Thursday, July 9.Educational institutions and workplaces are expected to function normally unless fresh orders are issued depending on the evolving weather situation.
Parents and students should follow official communication from their schools and local authorities before travelling.
Rainfall likely to ease after July 9
According to IMD Pune scientists, the widespread heavy rainfall affecting Maharashtra over the past several days is expected to weaken gradually. The well-marked low-pressure area responsible for the active monsoon conditions is moving north-westwards and is likely to weaken over the next 24 hours. As a result, monsoon activity over Maharashtra is expected to become less active from July 9 onwards.
Meteorologists have also said there is no fresh weather system likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal during the next five to seven days, suggesting that rainfall intensity will decrease even though showers will continue.
Break-like monsoon phase may begin from July 10
Weather experts have indicated that Maharashtra could enter a relatively weaker phase of the southwest monsoon from around July 10.Instead of widespread heavy rain, most places are expected to receive isolated to scattered showers. Intermittent sunshine may also return, leading to a slight rise in daytime temperatures and more humid conditions.
However, forecasters have noted that the duration of this lull will depend on the formation of the next weather system over the Bay of Bengal.
IMD issues safety advisory
With heavy rain and thunderstorms still possible, residents are advised to remain vigilant. The IMD recommends:
- Avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms.
- Stay away from waterlogged roads and flooded areas.
- Drive carefully as visibility may reduce during heavy showers.
- Secure loose outdoor objects that may be affected by strong winds.
- Check weather, traffic and public transport updates before travelling.
- Follow official IMD and local administration advisories.
Should Pune residents expect more heavy rain?
Although rain is expected to continue over the next few days, meteorologists believe the most intense phase of the current monsoon spell is nearing its end. From July 9 onwards, rainfall is likely to become less widespread, with occasional heavy showers replacing the prolonged downpours seen earlier this week.Residents should nevertheless continue monitoring official weather updates, as local conditions can change quickly during the monsoon season.
