Pune weather news: Rain to retreat soon, bigger temperature shift ahead

Rain activity over Pune is set to decline from Saturday, with largely dry conditions expected from Sunday, according to an official of the India Meteorological Department, as reported by TOI.

The IMD has issued no rainfall warning for Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan from Sunday, the official said, adding that maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 2–3°C between April 5 and 9. For Pune, skies are expected to remain mainly clear, turning partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening, with no rainfall forecast from Sunday onward.

Independent forecaster Abhijit Modak told TOI rainfall activity is already tapering off across Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune. “There was some rainfall in isolated pockets on Friday, but it will stop from Saturday,” he said. Modak explained that the weather system responsible for the recent thundershowers is not weakening but shifting eastwards.

“Its impact will now be seen over regions such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur,” he said, noting that such systems typically move sequentially across the state from western Maharashtra to Marathwada and then Vidarbha.

He added that while broader forecasts indicate rainfall across the state until April 6–7, they may not fully capture this region-wise progression. “For western Maharashtra, including Pune, Friday was the last day of influence,” he said. With the system moving away, weather conditions are expected to turn clearer over the weekend, accompanied by a dip in temperatures.

Modak said minimum temperatures in Pune could fall to around 14–15°C on Sunday and Monday due to clear skies and north-easterly winds. Normal summer conditions are likely to return from April 10, with maximum temperatures rising to around 38–40°C, particularly in eastern parts of Pune such as Lohegaon. He added that no immediate rainfall activity is expected after the current spell. “The next rainfall, if any, may occur after April 15, but forecasts beyond a week are not reliable,” Modak said.
