Pune weather: IMD predicts rain, thunderstorm tonight; yellow alert issued for next 48 hours

Pune is set to witness light rain and thunderstorms over the next 48 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for March 19 and March 20 amid unstable weather conditions across Maharashtra.

According to the forecast for March 18, the city is expected to see a partly cloudy sky in the afternoon turning generally cloudy by night, with the possibility of very light rain or drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds of 20–30 kmph, gusting up to 40 kmph during the evening and night. Temperatures are likely to hover around a maximum of 33°C and a minimum of 18°C, with humidity levels between 45% and 76%.

On March 19, thunderstorms with rain are expected throughout the day. Very light to light rainfall is likely during the forenoon, afternoon, evening and night, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph. The maximum temperature is forecast at 29°C and the minimum at 19°C, with humidity ranging between 50% and 80%.

Similar conditions are likely to persist on March 20, with thunderstorms and light rainfall expected across all parts of the day. Gusty winds of 30–40 kmph along with lightning activity are anticipated. The temperature is projected to remain around 27°C during the day and 17°C at night, while humidity may range between 60% and 85%.

The yellow alert indicates the possibility of adverse weather conditions and residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of lightning and strong winds.
