Mumbai and Thane are likely to get light spells of rain over the next three hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, issuing a yellow nowcast warning, reports Mid Day. According to the IMD, Mumbai is likely to record a maximum temperature of around 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 16 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The alert was issued at 7 am today morning and the IMD warned residents to take necessary precautions as intermittent rainfall may affect parts of the region during the morning hours. In Pune, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy for the day with a maximum temperature of 29.2°C and a minimum of 18.7°C. Pune has been witnessing a steady rise in both minimum and maximum temperatures for the past few days.

On Monday, Pune's daytime temperature crossed the 30-degree Celsius mark. Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6 degrees Celsius while Lohgaon touched 32.5 degrees Celsius. According to weather officials, an approaching Western disturbance is influencing weather patterns over north and central India. The system, when combined with easterly winds, is expected to increase cloud cover in several parts of Maharashtra, including Pune.

Yellow alert for Maharashtra

The IMD has issued a yellow alert amid the winter season, indicating signs of unseasonal rainfall across several parts of Maharashtra. In Dhule, the region may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light rainfall, and gusty winds ranging between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour at isolated places, the IMD said. Apart from Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Parbhani are also under a yellow alert today.

According to the IMD, light rainfall accompanied with thundershowers very likely to occur in the districts of North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. Partly cloudy weather conditions very likely to prevail in the districts of Konkan- Goa, South Madhya Maharashtra, the weather department said.

Mumbai, Thane AQI

According to the Sameer app, Mumbai's air quality index (AQI) stands at 121, which falls in the moderate category and may cause breathing discomfort to people with lung disorders, asthma, and heart ailments. Meanwhile, Thane and Kalyan recorded an AQI of 124 each, placing air quality in the moderate category, while Navi Mumbai reported a satisfactory AQI of 94, which may cause minor breathing discomfort for sensitive individuals.
