Is there a school, college or office holiday in Pune on 8 July?

No official announcement has been made regarding a holiday on Wednesday, 8 July.

The holiday declared by the Pune district administration was applicable only for 7 July, when an alert was in place due to the threat of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning.

Schools: No district-wide holiday announced for 8 July. Several schools have resumed classes, while some have temporarily shifted to online learning or scheduled extra Saturday classes to make up for lost teaching days.

Colleges: No official district-wide closure has been announced. Students should follow updates issued by their respective institutions.

Offices: Government and private offices are expected to remain open as usual. Employees are advised to monitor traffic and weather advisories before travelling.

Residents and parents are advised to keep checking official updates from the Pune District Administration, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and their respective schools or colleges in case the weather situation changes.

The forecast indicates moderate rainfall throughout the day, but there is currently no Yellow, Orange or Red Alert for Pune.

Why were schools closed on 7 July?

The Pune District Collector had ordered a holiday for all primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, including Anganwadis, across specified areas of Pune district on 7 July after the IMD issued an Orange Alert.

The decision was taken as a precaution due to forecasts of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning, along with reports of waterlogging and landslide risks in some areas.

PMC withdraws temporary water cuts

In a separate development, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has temporarily withdrawn the alternate-day water supply schedule from 7 July to 12 July.

The civic body said rainfall in the dam catchment areas has improved reservoir storage. It also cited the arrival of a large number of Warkari pilgrims for the Palkhi 2026 procession as a reason for ensuring uninterrupted water supply during this period.

A fresh decision on water rationing will be taken after 12 July, depending on rainfall and reservoir levels.

What should residents do?

Although there is no weather warning for Wednesday, intermittent rain is expected through the week. Commuters should remain cautious on waterlogged roads, monitor official weather bulletins and follow advisories issued by local authorities if conditions change.
