As heavy monsoon rain continues to affect large parts of Maharashtra, many parents, students and office-goers in Pune are wondering whether schools, colleges and government offices will remain open on Tuesday, July 7.

Are schools and colleges closed in Pune on July 7?

No. As of now, schools and colleges in Pune will remain open on Tuesday, July 7.

According to reports, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has confirmed that schools in Pune city and surrounding areas will function as usual on July 7, and no holiday has been declared for educational institutions.


This means that anganwadis, primary schools, secondary schools and higher secondary schools are expected to operate normally unless fresh orders are issued by the district administration.

Why were schools closed earlier?

On Monday, July 6, the Pune district administration had declared a holiday for all schools after the IMD issued a Red Alert, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rain at isolated places.

The precautionary measure was taken to ensure the safety of students as the region experienced widespread rainfall.

Despite the closure, headmasters, teachers and non-teaching staff were directed to report for duty during normal working hours and remain available for any disaster management responsibilities assigned by the administration.

What about Lonavala?

The Lonavala Municipal Council (LMC) had also announced a school holiday on July 6 following the IMD's rainfall forecast.

Several private schools in Lonavala informed parents about the closure through text messages, citing student safety amid heavy rain.

However, there has been no fresh announcement regarding a school holiday in Lonavala for July 7.

Are government offices closed in Pune on July 7?

No. There is currently no official notification announcing a holiday for government offices in Pune on July 7.

Government offices are expected to function normally. Employees are advised to monitor weather conditions and follow any advisories issued by the local administration.
