Pune man assaults delivery boy, fires gunshot over 'late' pizza delivery

A 27-year-old man was detained in Pune, Maharashtra, after he allegedly assaulted a delivery boy over the apparent delay in the delivery of pizza to his doorstep. The man also allegedly fired shots into the air. Chetan Padwal, the accused person, ordered pizza from a well-known restaurant in the city's Wagholi neighbourhood on Monday night.

Rushikesh Annapurve, the deliveryman, allegedly received abuse and beating from Padwal when he arrived at his home after being late with the delivery.

Padwal grabbed one of Annapurve's two coworkers by the collar and assaulted him as well when they arrived to ask why he assaulted their staff, according to a police official from Lonikand police station.


The official claimed that after that, an enraged Padwal raced to his SUV, which was parked close to his rowhouse, took out a pistol and started shooting into the air.

On the basis of a complaint by the pizza vendor's staff, the police detained Padwal for violating Indian Penal Code Sections 504 (intentional insult with purpose to incite disturbance of the peace), 323 (voluntarily causing harm), and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).

Complaint stated that the bullet could have hit anyone on the upper floors of the housing society where Padwal lives.

The police said Padwal has a licence for the pistol.
