PT Usha’s husband V Srinivasan was a former Kabaddi player, who worked as an officer in paramilitary forces

PT Usha’s husband, V Srinivasan, passed away early Friday after a sudden medical emergency at his residence in Kerala’s Kozhikode district, reported news agency PTI. PT Usha is the president of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Rajya Sabha MP. V Srinivasan passed away in the early hours of Friday, PTI reported, citing family sources. He was 67.

According to family sources, V Srinivasan felt uneasy around midnight at his home in Payyoli. He collapsed soon after and was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The unexpected loss has sent ripples of grief across both sports and political circles in the country. PT Usha was not at home at the time of the incident. She is on her way home after attending the parliamentary session.

PT Usha is one of India's most successful track-and-field athletes. She has four gold medals and seven silver medals at the Asian Games.

Who was V Srinivasan?

V Srinivasan was the husband of PT Usha, an Olympian and IOA President who died collapsed at his residence in Kerala today morning. A former central government employee, Srinivasan was a constant presence by Usha's side throughout her illustrious sporting and political career.

According to a report in DNA, V Srinivasan was a native of Ponnani in Malappuram district in Kerala and was associated with sports for a long time. A former kabaddi player, he also served as an officer in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Despite his achievements in sports and his professional career, he chose to remain largely out of the public spotlight, quietly supporting PT Usha throughout her athletic career and later during her roles in public life and sports administration.

PT Usha and V Srinivasan, distant relatives, tied the knot in 1991, and the couple has a son named Dr Ujjwal Vighnesh. V Srinivasan was widely regarded as her pillar of support and the driving force behind her many professional milestones. Close associates described him as disciplined, soft-spoken, and deeply committed to the values of sport and service to society, as per reports.

PM Modi dials PT Usha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to Rajya Sabha MP and President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) PT Usha and expressed his condolences on the passing of her husband, V. Srinivasan.

Kerala Governor Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, expressed profound grief over the demise of Shri V Sreenivasan, husband of Rajya Sabha MP and President of the Indian Olympic Association, Dr P T Usha. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May his soul attain mukti. Union minister of parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju also expressed profound grief over the demise of Shri V. Srinivasan.
