The initial findings, as detailed in the report, suggest that Sachin Kumar had been sent to retrieve the key for the driving trailer coach (DTC) cab. However, in a drunk state and preoccupied with his mobile phone, he negligently left his bag on the engine's throttle, causing it to move forward unexpectedly.
“Inebriated, continuously watching mobile phone and unmindful of his surroundings, he carelessly kept his bag on the throttle of the engine, taking it into forward position,” the report said.
As a result of this incident, five individuals involved in train operations and maintenance, including Sachin, have been suspended pending further investigation.
The 28-page report, obtained by TOI, highlights that while it is typically technicians who receive the key for the DTC cab, in this instance, the responsibility was assigned to Sachin Kumar.
In the unusual accident, the train travelling from Delhi derailed and ended up on platform 2A at Mathura Junction, colliding with an electric pole. Fortunately, there were no casualties, although one female passenger suffered an electric shock, according to railway authorities.
