Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez sparkled on his debut, and several other new faces showed promise, but the Blues' difficulties persisted despite a 300 million pound ($361.53 million) January spending binge in their 0-0 draw with Fulham on Friday.

With only 22 goals scored in 21 Premier League games this season, coach Graham Potter has yet to find a way to transform his massive squad's plethora of potential into a winning machine.

Argentina's World Cup champion Fernandez, who was purchased from Benfica this week for a British record fee of over 107 million pounds, blasted a shot just wide in the 72nd minute following an impressive first-half show of defending and passing.

Despite the excitement generated by the club's new American owners' spate of additions in the mid-season transfer window, there was customary dissatisfaction for home supporters as Chelsea failed to break through their organised visitors.

Potter, who is under pressure to turn Chelsea's fortunes around, told reporters, “We didn't do enough in terms of offensive play to generate more, which is something we need to do”.

Potter said that his team was not firing on all cylinders, despite wing back Reece James returning from injury and the addition of fresh faces.

But he believes they can still finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League next season. Chelsea presently trail fourth-placed Manchester United by nine points, despite having a game in hand.

Fulham manager Marco Silva complimented his players after they defeated Chelsea 2-1 at Craven Cottage in January. Rather than being concerned about Chelsea's new-look team, he suggested Fulham will sustain the form that has catapulted them to sixth place in the standings.

The Portuguese coach, Marco Silva, explained “To be really honest, we are focused on ourselves and what we can do together”.
