The live-in partner of a 19-year-old student from Tripura allegedly poured sanitiser on her private parts and set them on fire after confining her for three days at a paying guest (PG) accommodation. The accused was arrested on February 19.

Days after his arrest, it has emerged that the woman — a second-year BSc Biotechnology student at a private university — was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse between February 16 and 18 at a PG in Sector 69.

The victim’s mother alleged that the 19-year-old accused urinated on her daughter and burned her private parts "three times every day during the confinement". She further claimed that her daughter told her over the phone: "I don't have time, I will be killed."

In her statement to the police, the woman said the accused recorded a video during the assault. She is currently undergoing treatment in Delhi after suffering multiple injuries. She also alleged that he used a knife to cut her on various parts of her body. The mother further alleged, "(The accused) raped my daughter on the false promise of marriage."

Relationship and Allegations

According to the FIR lodged at Badshahpur police station, the accused met the woman through an online app on September 6, 2025. By the end of that month, she visited him at his residence in Delhi, where — as stated in her complaint — he promised marriage and established physical relations with her for the first time. The two later began living together in a rented accommodation in Gurgaon.

In her complaint, she stated, "He grew increasingly suspicious and violent." She alleged that in January he assaulted her and pressured her not to inform her family. On February 13, they shifted to the PG in Sector 69, rented in the accused’s name. The violence allegedly intensified on February 16.

The complainant said, "He beat me repeatedly, struck my head against a bed and an almirah, hit me with a steel bottle and smashed an earthen pot on my head."

She further alleged that he poured sanitiser on her private parts and set them on fire, threatening that he would beat her so severely that she would "never be able to walk properly or become a mother". Over the next three days, he allegedly used a knife to inflict cuts on her legs and assaulted her with kicks and punches. The FIR states that she was confined inside the room during this period.

Rescue and Medical Treatment
On February 18, around 10pm, the woman managed to call her mother using the accused’s phone and informed her about her condition in Bengali, a language he did not understand.

Recounting the conversation, the mother said her daughter sounded terrified. "A man has been assaulting me for the last three days. He hit me and also burnt me. He will kill me today," she said her daughter told her at around 10pm.

Following the call, the mother contacted the police control room. A police team reached the PG and took the woman to Civil Hospital in Sector 10. Doctors initially declared her unfit to give a statement and referred her to Safdarjung Hospital. After she was declared fit, she provided a detailed statement to the police.

Arrest and Charges

The accused was arrested after a case was registered under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 118(2) (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation).

Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan (ASI) said, "The girl was rescued by police and hospitalised. Her condition is currently stable. Police took immediate action and arrested the accused. Police are continuously in contact with doctors and family and some opinion is yet to be received from the doctors, if any further sections need to be added."

Police added that, considering the family’s emotional state and the victim’s condition, a thorough investigation is underway. "The case is being treated as an identified crime, in which it is continuously monitored and the presence of witnesses is ensured on every date and the trial is completed as soon as possible. There will be a demand from the police side in court that the strictest, maximum punishment in this case should be given to the accused," the officer said.
