Popular RJ Simran Singh found dead in Gurugram; cops suspect suicide

Simran Singh, a popular freelance radio jockey from Jammu and Kashmir, widely known as RJ Simran, was found dead in her Gurugram Sector 47 apartment. The police suspect the 25-year-old's death to be a case of suicide, though investigations are ongoing.

Investigating officer, ASI Pradeep Kumar, Sadar Police Station, Gurugram, said, "An RJ and social media influencer from J&K, Simran Singh, who was living in a rented house in Sector 47 of Gurugram died by suicide on Wednesday evening. Police received a call at 10:30 pm from Park Hospital regarding the body."

However, Gurugram Police said they have not found any suicide note from Simran's flat nor did Simran's family file any complaint against anyone.


"The family said that Simran had been facing problems for some time due to which she took this step and did not hold anybody responsible for this. Based on a written complaint from the family members, action was taken and the post-mortem was done on Thursday morning. The body has been handed over to the family members. No case was registered," ASI Pradeep Kumar added.

RJ Simran had amassed nearly 700,000 followers on Instagram, where her vibrant personality and humorous reels earned her the nickname "Jammu Ki Dhadkan" (Heartbeat of Jammu) among fans. Her last post, shared on December 13, was a slow-motion video of her laughing and twirling at the beach in a peach gown, captioned, “Just a girl with endless giggles and her gown, taking over the beach.”


The tragic news emerged after a friend who was staying with Simran called the police upon discovering her body. Authorities have since handed over her remains to her family.

A resident of Jammu, Simran Singh was a well-known voice in the region, initially working with a reputed radio station before transitioning into freelancing. Beyond her radio career, she was a social media sensation, delighting her followers with humorous and relatable reels.

Her untimely death has left fans, friends, and family in shock. Many flocked to her Instagram profile, expressing disbelief and grief in the comments. "How can someone who seems so happy die like this," wrote one distraught fan.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over Simran's tragic passing. In a statement, he and Dr. Farooq Abdullah extended heartfelt condolences to her family and fans.

“Simran’s voice and charm resonated with the spirit of Jammu and Kashmir. Her contribution to the cultural fabric of our region will always be remembered,” read a joint statement by the Jammu Kashmir National Conference.

The loss of RJ Simran, affectionately regarded as the "Heartbeat of Jammu," has left an indelible mark on her listeners and followers. Her infectious energy, humor, and warmth will be cherished by all who knew her.
