Actor Jayam Ravi, who potrayed the part of Arunmozhi Varman, a significant role in director Mani Ratnam's masterwork Ponniyin Selvan-I, announced his diagnosis in a tweet on Friday night


The 42-year-old said he is in isolation and also requested people who came in contact with him recently to get a Covid test as soon as possible and follow the appropriate protocol.

"Earlier this evening I tested positive for Covid-19. Following all protocols, I have immediately isolated myself. I sincerely request all those that have come in contact with me to get themselves tested if necessary. Mask up. Stay safe! God bless," he tweeted.

A new report from Health Ministry shows a slight surge in COVID numbers in India, with a single-day rise of 2,112 new infections. This takes the total COVID tally to 4,46,40,748, even though the active cases have declined to 24,043.

In Ponniyin Selvan-I, Jayam Ravi portrays the role of prince Arunmozhi Varman, the young sibing of Aditha Karikalan and Kundhavai. The movie 'Ponniyin Selvan' is actually Arunmozhi Varman's story as his character is the one who is referred to as 'Ponniyin Selvan'.

Mani Ratnam's dream project, 'Ponniyin Selvan' is adapted from a historical fiction of the same name by illustrious writer Kalki. The filming is done in two parts. The first part was released on September 30 and received high praise from the audience. The movie features an ensemble cast of stars, including actors Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Jayaram, Karthi, Parthiban, Prakash Raj, Nassar, Prabhu and Makarand Deshpande.
