PM Narendra Modi's convoy reduced to just two cars, watch viral video

After the announcement of reducing the convoy size significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen moving with just 2-car convoy in Delhi. As per ANI video, the PM was seen travelling with only two vehicles --Range Rover and Fortuner -- during travel in Delhi, instead of the larger carcade usually associated with VVIP movement. Normally, PM's convoy has at least 12–15 vehicles, including armored Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard, Range Rovers, Toyota Fortuners, escort vehicles, jammer units, decoy cars, and ambulance.

Earlier in the day, reports emerged that PM Modi's has significantly reduced the size of his convoy during recent domestic visits while retaining all mandatory security arrangements under Special Protection Group (SPG) protocols, TOI reported. The move was implemented during Modi’s recent visits to Gujarat, Assam and Hyderabad as part of broader efforts aimed at reducing fuel consumption and encouraging sustainable practices amid the ongoing West Asia crisis.

SPG begins implementing revised convoy measures

Sources told TOI that the SPG has already started implementing the instruction while ensuring there is no compromise on the mandatory security guidelines laid down in the Blue Book. Officials said the slimmer convoy arrangement is being carried out within the framework of existing security protocols and that the SPG will further devise methods to maintain strict adherence to operational guidelines.

PM’s Hyderabad remarks linked to austerity push

During his visit to Hyderabad on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi appealed to citizens to reduce fuel and gold consumption. Officials familiar with the developments said the Prime Minister taking the lead is being viewed as a signal for the wider government machinery to adopt similar austerity measures quickly.

Ministries considering fuel-saving steps

According to officials, ministries and departments are preparing measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption and unnecessary expenditure. These could include encouraging employees to use Metro services more frequently, opt for carpooling and avoid large banquets.

“There are talks across departments for identifying all steps that can reduce fuel consumption. The message of the PM is for all, including us. We are waiting for communication from the personnel department detailing what we should do. But every department will have to work out their own plans,” an official said.

Fuel conservation discussed at ministers’ meeting

The issue of reducing fuel usage by cutting down unnecessary travel was also discussed during an informal group of ministers’ meeting chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday.

Amit Shah also reduces convoy size

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal on fuel conservation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also reportedly reduced his convoy size to just two vehicles — a Scorpio and a Fortuner.
