Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the 118 km long expressway connecting Bengaluru-Nidaghatta-Mysuru on Sunday. PM Modi has described the project as a significant connectivity project that will support Karnataka's growth trajectory.

On the other hand, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, thinks it will increase accessibility to places like Srirangapatna, Coorg, Ooty, and Kerala, thereby enhancing those places' tourism potential.

The three-hour commute between the state's cultural hub, Mysuru, and Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, will come down to 75-90 minutes due to the 118 km Bengaluru-Mysuru highway on NH-275. Further, the expressway consists of 64 underpasses, 42 minor bridges, 9 major bridges, 4 Rail Over Bridges and 11 overpasses. To minimise traffic jams in the towns along the route, the expressway has five bypasses around Bidadi, Ramanagara-Channapatna, Maddur, Mandya, and Srirangapatna.

One of the important things which should be noted is that in Karnataka, NHAI has planned to restrict the movement of two-wheelers and reduce the speed of the three-wheelers from using the expressway. The main aim of NHAI is to prevent an accident as it is more often to take place. Even before the highway opened, there were a number of incidents on the road due to drivers' recklessness and steep turns. Traffic officers have urged drivers to exercise caution. Contact NHAI immediately at 1033, which is a toll-free number in case of any emergency.

The project includes widening of NH 275 to six lanes through the Bengaluru-Nidaghatta-Mysuru segment. The 118 km long project's development cost totalled around 8480 crores. Further, the journey from Bengaluru to Mysuru will take only around 75 minutes instead of nearly 3 hours. The expressway will serve as a catalyst for socio-economic growth in the area.
